Happy New Year BSD Families!
We hope everyone had a wonderful break and are back into the swing of school,
schedules and DANCE! As we begin to prepare for the recital season and the
hustle and bustle of end of school year exams and projects, we want to make
sure all students are staying healthy, safe, and aware of changes that will be
shortly occurring at BSD.
The ballet faculty at BSD knows that change is inevitable, sometimes uncomfortable, and can take time to get used to. As dance medicine and the ballet industry become more knowledgeable, it is our responsibility as educators to update and make necessary changes for our community and students. As a team at BSD, safety and health is a top priority and something we strive to instill in our students. We, as a school, want to make sure that we’re building Stronger, Smarter and Better dancers.
After recital and throughout the summer we will be implementing and conducting pointe assessments for those who wish to continue or to begin pointe work. Again, all students will have to complete an assessment in order to take pointe in the fall. This requirement is to ensure safety for both the student and the school! Each year, all students on pointe will be re-assessed and those who want to go on pointe will have to take an assessment exam. In addition to this new change, ballet classes will be restructured to allow levels 4 and 5 to have a 1 hour and 15 minute flat ballet technique class. BSD, will offer a separate 1 hour pointe class to allow proper time, training and to begin adherence to ballet standards.
It is not a requirement to take pointe, nor is pointe necessary to be a well-rounded dancer. Pointe requires physical strength, stamina, health, alignment and a rigorous class structure.
Below are the dates and requirements for the pointe assessments that must be scheduled by appointment only:
Sunday, June 10th, 1:00 - 3:00pm
